So here’s something that you may not have been aware of: everything doesn’t have to be turnt to the max. This is where I come in.

For those that don’t know me, my name is Anthony Johnell. I am a visual artist, music producer, and a DJ under the alias of artafackt. Though I was an early adopter to trap-edm well before the genre actually had a name, I’ve been obsessed with almost every genre of music out there. I’ve always been drawn to left-field, forward-pushing, genre-blending tracks. Though I felt most music had curators that always pushed the boundaries of familiarity, there was always one genre of music that I felt was stagnant and boring… and that was R&B. Luckily around the mid-to-late 90’s (from what I recall), a few artists started to push those limits and incorporate soundscapes that weren’t often found in contemporary R&B. A decade or so later, things began to really shift with music from artists like The-Dream, and the worldwide phenom, The Weeknd.

With Chillvo, I will do my best to introduce you to the alternative side of the mainstream. Atmospheric vibes for those car rides home after the turn up. The loft after-parties. The smoke sessions. The late night hook-ups. Playlists will include artists from all over the world; originals, remixes, covers, music that doesn’t subscribe to a specific genre or theme. Some new. Some very old (I wanted to include some pioneering shit like Massive Attack, Portishead and Nine Inch Nails, but unfortunately I couldn’t find anything on Soundcloud for this first post). So sit back, and enjoy these progressive-thinking, chill ass vibes. Welcome to Chillvo.
