This past week, we were lucky enough to catch DJ-Producer Throwdown, real name Gian Franco, for an interview despite his busy schedule. When Gian was just 10 years old, he came to the states and found himself in Florida. However, he also brought his love of music with him, and eventually found himself pursuing the music career he’s always wanted. Calm and calculated, make sure to be on the lookout for this heavy-hitting monster. Hear his thoughts on his past, present, and soon-to-be explosive future in this deep interview.

First, thank you so much for doing this interview. You’ve seen extraordinary growth over this past year, playing all over the states (and going off while doing so). What do you personally have to say about the past year? How has it been for you?

THROWDOWN

“I appreciate the kind words brother. The past years been full of a lot of blood, sweat and tears but overall, I’ve come out on top. Even though there’s been disappointment, I think there’s been a lot more great moments for me this year.”

Mental health is something very serious and not to be overlooked. It’s claimed our favorite artists and our favorite actors, there is no discrimination. How is your mental health personally? And what do you have to say to other artists having a hard time dealing with their own mental health?

THROWDOWN

“I believe mental health is one of the most important tools for yourself. Good mental health is extremely important for artists like myself, and usually, you want to have stability around you to keep yourself grounded, focused, and mentally stable. Physical health is very underappreciated but still very important, and I myself make it a point to get my lifts in. Mental health is very serious, and absolutely not to be joked about.”

You just released your “Move Back” remix 2 weeks ago and are about to drop another monster track with Slimez. Where do you find your motivation to create and put out tracks? What is your inspiration?

THROWDOWN

“My motivation is just reminding myself where I started from and where I am going. That always motivates me to keep my head down, keep grinding and to continue to grow my brand. Riot Ten is probably my biggest inspiration, he’s just done so much for me and helped me with so much, including helping me pick up my music career and supporting me endlessly. There really is no better feeling that someone you look up to that supports you. Music is my lifestyle, I love everything I’m involved with now because this was my dream when I was young and now it’s my lifestyle. I’m blessed with this life.”

TRILLVO

Everyone has their own favorite place they’ve played or a place they want to play. What’s yours?

THROWDOWN

“I definitely want to play Red Rocks, Berghain in Germany, and Lost Lands. Of course, there’s a lot more festivals and shows I want to play but these are just the ones that come to mind. Anyway, things are looking amazing for me this year like I’ve said, and I’m really hoping to play Lost Lands this year.”

Has music always been your dream, or were you interested in doing something else for a career?

THROWDOWN

“My whole life I’ve been making music. I played guitar and piano when I was just 6, and by 17, I wanted to make music my career. When I was younger, I was actually not huge on music this way because I was spending my time playing soccer. However, when I moved to the states when I was 10, I found my passion again and it slowly grew into what it is now.”

TRILLVO

What is life like for you outside of music?

THROWDOWN

“My personal and my music life is extremely close together. Sometimes I go out to listen to others play their own sets and I get recognized. Even walking on the streets, sometimes I get stopped and asked for photos. I deal with both lives just fine, but that’s mainly because I don’t care much to keep it separate. I know some other artists do, but it’s just how I am. “

TRILLVO

Whether they want to be a producer or a photographer, what words of advice do you have for someone looking to enter the scene?

THROWDOWN

“Respect other artists. No matter what it is in the scene, just have respect. I personally am kind to everyone and anyone, and have had no problems with anyone. My advice career-wise is just to always try market your projects well. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, if you don’t promote your material, you’re going to go nowhere. 2 necessities I would say are having good contacts and marketing. Talent comes before anything else.”

TRILLVO

Every artist out there has friends inside the scene who become friends in life as well. Coming from Florida, is there anyone out there you consider your friend?

THROWDOWN

“Of course! Nitti Gritti has been absolutely killing it this year, and if you haven’t checked him out, I’m gonna go ahead and recommend him. Bonnie x Clyde who I’ve known for years now, got love for both of them. Blunts & Blondes is the chillest person I’ve ever met really. He just gets along with everyone he comes into contact with, it’s dope. I’d love to play a set with him.”

What can we expect to come in 2019 from the man himself?

THROWDOWN

“Keep an eye out for collabs from big names, I have tons coming and even more planned. Watch for my name on festival line-ups this next year, as well as my tour which I will be announcing soon. On the tour, I’m really trying to hit all the cities that I haven’t hit yet, especially on the east coast. Also, I have a collab with GRAVEDGR for sure, we just don’t have a date for release yet.  Regarding merchandise, I don’t have any yet. However, after I finish the Hype or Die tour, I guarantee you can expect to see Throwdown hats, tanktops, shirts, shorts, hoodies, the whole thing. Just keep up to date with me and you’ll know exactly when everything is dropping.”

TRILLVO

Anyone out there you want to shout-out or show some appreciation to?

THROWDOWN

“Shout-out Chris aka Riot Ten, you’ve done so much for me and I’m so extremely grateful and blessed to have met you. Paul is a cool guy, I guess. But really, shout-out my manager Paul for being the realest and keeping me focused. He’s the reason I got this interview, too. Got too much love for those two.”
