Following the grind of an instantly lovable young boy on his quest to be a boss, Moonkey Agency who directed this video shares a story of hustle and ambition with Mercer’s “Boss” serving as the soundtrack. From selling candy on the streets of Bali to building his own pimped-out motorcycle embellished with an ox-skull, the young boy, trusty Mercer doll in tow, demonstrates that with determination and a do-it-yourself mentality, you can steer life to your own will.
With Mercer taking us back to the Subliminal Records days, he kicks off “Boss” with his iconic disco and New York house and takes it to new levels by also bringing a hypnotic loop to the hit. Though Mercer is known for his funky disco and house influences, he shows us he’s boss at Hip-Hop too with this deep cut.
The infectious track features a sample from legendary hustling Houston rapper Slim Thug who is known in the streets for his dynamic catalog and gained mainstream fame from his work on Mike Jones “Still Tippin.” Other hits from the Still Tippin’ on fo’ fo’s steetz king include Beyonce’s #1 single “Check On It,” Gwen Stefani’s “Luxurious,” “3 Kings” feat. T.I. and Big Bun, as well as “I Ain’t Heard of That” which features Pharrell and Big Bun.
“I’ve always been a massive fan of Slim Thug. His delivery and flow are so legendary I couldn’t help but use it in one of my songs. I sent it to Thug once it was finished and he liked it from the first play! He’s a very dope guy and is very easy to work with” – Mercer
The Frenchman seems to be living the message of his track. As 1/4th of the French collective Pardon My French, along with DJ Snake, Tchami, and Malaa, Mercer has already amassed an original collection of massive club bangers through Spinnin Records, such as “Supreme”, “Lunatic”, and his recent monstrous collaboration with DJ Snake, “Let’s Get Ill”. Having performed for some of the biggest audiences in the world including Creamfields, Hard Summer, Ushuaia, Ultra Music Festival and Holy Ship, he will be wrapping up 2018 at Sunburn Festival in Pune, India on December 31st.
