There is no better way than to bring in the New Year than with a little champagne, unless it’s a bottle of champagne, mixed with The Champagne, the debut EP from the Champagne Poppers.
The EP instantly catches you attention, bringing in the nostalgia of the 20th Century Fox introduction from all your favorite movies growing up. Instantly, I knew this album was going to provide entertainment the same way you would hearing that introduction at the movies. The album in general is a different sound for the duo, a little less heavy than what we are used to with some beautifully soothing vocals that will make your hair stand straight up.
The first song on the album “Perfume” is a personal favorite. The drum patterns at the beginning of the track are literal music to the ears. Parts of it even sound like it could have been recorded with a drum line. However, what steals my heart are the vocals. Carson, on half of the duo, and the vocals on the EP really did something special across this whole EP. His voice is deep, but soothing and is almost refreshing to hear. Not to mention, he even throws a little rap into the track.
The next track, “Restless”, is stunningly beautiful. Beautiful guitar chords sweeping your ears in the beginning, then add Carson’s beautiful vocals, and by the time you get to that first drop, GAME OVER! This track is beautiful with a beautiful sound design. It’s the kind of track that never gets old. I could see this song getting commercial attention it’s that good.
“When The Sun Goes Down” is more of a lighter feel. The track has the kind of drops we were expecting to hear from the duo, but still has a great vocal cutting in between the heavier drops. The drop by the way is earth shattering. What impressed us most here is how well this upbeat track blended so beautifully with the songs prior to it.
Last but not least, “Waves” is the kind of song I would listen to chilling with my homies, vibing out over a bottle of champagne. It’s a chill track, it’s peaceful, and could definitely be played on mainstream radio. It’s light, but not weak.
The whole EP, in our opinion from start to finish is genius. If this is how the Champagne Poppers are starting of 2019, everyone else better step up their game. This EP has something from everyone and shows a more true and vulnerable side of the duo. We are declaring this EP a must listen.
