After several years’ hiatus, BSOD is back! Comprised of musical legends deadmau5 and Steve Duda, these two have joined forces once more to bring BSOD back with more electro goodness than ever before!
If you’ve listened to any previous BSOD releases, you’ll feel right at home with this one. No Way, Get Real is full of four addicting, yet satisfying bangers.
The EP starts off with “Afterburner.” An excellent intro tune as it starts off filtered and then segues into a nice deep electro growl with perfect kicks to match. The eighth note melody along with rising musical tones only adds to the groovy depth of the tune.
“Allpassing Lane” is one the standouts from this EP. It’s beautiful mixture of chords and chill melodies make for the best driving music. Deadmau5 has always been known for his expertise with coming up with infectious chords, and one can only think that his work is evident here. Steve Duda isn’t to be left out either, as you can sense his own blend of electronic craftsmanship in this.
The absolute standout for me from this EP would easily have to be “Fives.” Those low bass purrs at the start of the track instantly got me curious for what was to come next. I wasn’t disappointed, as I was greeted with a fine kick, claps and 8bit notes that had me moving along precisely to each and every beat. The shaker effect that comes into play only makes it even more tantalizing.
Finally, “Pitches Love Me” is a playfully groovy track that’s fitting to close out an EP as funkadelic as this one. It has a nice, almost 80s-inspired feel, but with a BSOD twist of course.
After hearing this EP, we clearly want more; But after waiting this long for one, we can surely say the wait was definitely worth it. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait another 4+ years for the next EP!
