2020 has been a massive year for the rise of melodic dubstep and future riddim. Bass music pioneers have fully embraced the power and emotion behind strong melodies and beautiful synths to push the boundaries of the genre to new heights. At the forefront of this movement, Cooper Medearis, aka Oolacile, just a few months ago launched his brand new label, Halcyon. With its sole purpose of exploring this genre and giving experimental bass music its place in the spotlight. The collective has given us a constant flow of new music since its launch day, with tracks from the likes of Leotrix, Akeos, Aweminus, Phonon, SVDDEN DEATH, and more. The latest release, Perceiver Pt. 1 Conciousness Program, is a journey into the rising genre of melodic / future riddim, and gives us a look into the future of what Oolacile and his friends will be bringing into 2021.

Full length LPs are far from common place in the bass music scene, often artists resort to releasing 3-4 track EPs, or release their tracks as singles to give each track its moment to shine. Some artists chose to release full length albums, and I find that these are often the most exciting releases for me. A fully realized vision, LPs can be a look into the true range and creative potential that an artist can bring to the table, they can define how an artist wants their art to be perceived, and give us a window into the mind of the creator. This album does all of this and more, from start to finish each song is a story, a journey through the mind of Cooper himself, defining his sound and solidifying his place as a forefather of experimental bass music.

My favorite track from the album has to be the collaboration track with Aweminus, “Mind Scanner.” The powerful synths and melodies of Oolacile combined with the rhythm and grime we’ve come to expect from Aweminus create a truly unique experience and give us a taste of what the duo can accomplish together and showcase the talent behind the Halcyon name.

You can stream the whole album below or find it on most streaming platforms. Be sure to follow Oolacile to stay on top of his latest releases, and don’t forget to check out some of our other amazing articles while you’re listening to the new LP!
