ATTLAS (Jeff Hartford) surely has been busy these last few years. Nearly one year ago he launched his debut album, Lavender God. Now he’s back with a very personal follow up in the form of Out Here With You. It’s a musical dedication to the pandemic we as a whole have all been facing together. With 2020 thrown into such turmoil, this album is meant to evoke everything that came from within this year. ATTLAS himself calls it, “A chance to catch my breath amidst this all.” Venturing deep into this album is a beautiful journey, because you can lose and find yourself all at the same time. The intro track, “Morning Fields”, begins with soft serene sounds, synths and chill vibes with vocal samples to further accentuate the tone of the track. It then blooms into the next track, “Polar Concept.” Yet another mood-inducing track to really set your mind free. “Uour” is one of my favorites from the album, simply for that more thought-provoking feeling only ATTLAS can invoke. With a fluttering deep melody, low bass growls and a nice piano tune.

“Seabreeze” gives off more of those melodic blissful vibes, as it is perfect for those who have a liking to the sea. “Thunderstorms from the Balcony” is a great follow up, because it has a rolling piano tune with sounds of pouring rain accompanying it. It’s a nice little break to sort of transition into the second half of the album. “When We Were the Same” has a more upbeat feel to it from the very start, which then blossoms into another grandeur yet dreamlike track. It’s got great emotion to it, and I love it just for that. “In a Cloud” will make you feel as if you truly are in a cloud in a way. It evokes that essence of floating through it’s blissful sounds. “Ponds” gets us back to that more laidback vibe, with nice piano melodies and synths that hold each others’ musical hands. “Mgt” continues that calm feeling, which led me into wondering how this euphoric journey would wrap up. Last but certainly not least, ATTLAS says to us all that he’s “Out There With You.” The final track on the album. It’s a 10 minute expedition of emotion, inner thought and feeling unlike no other. Beautiful plucks start off the song, until it culminates into pure progressive peacefulness. This is a song to lose yourself to, in all the right ways. It’s got a hopeful tone to it, which shows that we should all be hopeful for the future. Regardless of how bleak things may look for the time being.

Out Here With You is ATTLAS at his creative best. Whether you’ve been a fan for years like myself, or are just delving into his newest works, this album is sure to please, and also to remind you that there is always hope. In closing, here are some words about the album from ATTLAS himself:
“Out Here With You’ is a chance to catch my breath amidst this all. Calmer and more hopeful; it is the result of the small areas of positivity we can still control this year, like fresh air and adventures with my best friend. This album is as much for and about her and us as it is all of us. If there’s a helplessness you feel, I’m out here with you and likewise these hopeful melodies are a reflection of simple rays of light that shine through the smallest of cracks during this dark time.” – Jeff Hartford/ATTLAS
